After our walking tour of Pécs, we were given 45 minutes of free time.
Maybe we should have taken the tourist train!
Széchenyi tér/Széchenyi Square with
Szentháromság-szobor/Holy Trinity Statue
(1908, by György Kiss, replacing the
deteriorating 1714 statue erected to
commemorate the end of the plague)
Hunyadi-szobor/Hunyadi Statue (1956,
by Pál Pátzay) of Hungarian military hero
János Hunyadi who defended the Kingdom
of Hungary from the Ottoman Empire
Megyeháza/County Hall (1897, as the Pécs-Baranya
Central Savings Bank), the bees and beehive decorations
symbolize the building as a financial institution
Városháza/City Hall (1907, by Adolf Láng in Neo-Baroque style)

We were looking for the National Theater
on the wrong street, and the yellow wall
is the rear of the building...
So this was not the National Theater either,
but it is Markus Színház/Markus Theatre,
a Hungarian Puppet theater
Former Pécsi Napló/Pécs Journal (newspaper)
(1906, by Andor Pilch) has a bust of Johannes
Gutenberg, the printer, over the corner door (KSS)
Pécsi Zsinagóga/Pécs Synagogue (1866-1869, by
Frigyes Feszl, Károly Gerster, and Lipót Kauser
