From Dilworth Park, we walked a couple blocks up Broad Street to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts/ PAFA and its Historic Landmark Building (1871-1876, by Frank Furness and George W Hewitt in Victorian Gothic Revival style) with floral motifs and a Gothic window |
PAFA was established in 1805 by painter and scientist Charles Willson Peale, sculptor William Rush, and other artists and business leaders, making it the first art museum and school of fine arts in America.
For America's 250th Anniversary, the exhibition A Nation of Artists brings together three remarkable collections: the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Middleton Family Collection. The presentation celebrates 250 years of American creativity.
